Glendive Dispensary Guide: Eight Licensed Shops on the Yellowstone

Glendive has eight licensed adult-use dispensaries for a town of fewer than 5,000 people. Here is who is on the state list, what the tax adds, and where the rules tighten.

6 min read

A Glendive dispensary search usually starts on I-94, somewhere between Miles City and the North Dakota line, and it ends at one of eight licensed storefronts. The Department of Revenue's current list of licensed dispensary locations puts all eight in Glendive and marks every one of them Adult Use, which means adults 21+ with a valid government ID can buy, resident or not. For a town of fewer than 5,000 people, that is a dense map, and it exists because Glendive sits where eastern Montana's roads come together.

Who is on the list

The Department of Revenue list, checked as of 2026, names these Glendive locations:

  • 406 Sky High Cannabis Glendive
  • Bloom, with two Glendive locations
  • GVH Inc - Glendive
  • High Mountain - Glendive
  • N8V Grown - Glendive
  • Sacred Sun Farms - Glendive
  • Seed of Life Labs

Several of those names repeat across the region. High Mountain and Seed of Life Labs also hold Fairview locations, N8V Grown and Bloom have stores in Sidney, and Bloom runs storefronts in Bainville and Fairview as well. Hours on the plains shift with the season, so a call before the drive is cheaper than a wasted half hour of highway. The full statewide map sits on the dispensary directory, and the regulator's own list is the one to trust: verify licensed status with the Department of Revenue at revenue.mt.gov/card/cannabis/.

What a purchase costs

Montana taxes adult-use cannabis at 20% of the retail price and medical at 4%. Dawson County adds its own local option tax of 3% on both adult-use and medical sales, in place since April 2022, so the shelf price in Glendive carries 23% on adult-use purchases and 7% on medical. Medical registry cards are issued only to Montana residents, which leaves visitors on the adult-use side of the counter.

How much you can buy

State law caps what an adult can carry: 1 ounce of flower, of which no more than 8 grams may be concentrate, and no more than 800 milligrams of THC in edible products. Since July 1, 2026, a single edible serving tops out at 5 mg of THC and a package at 100 mg. Start low, go slow applies to every one of those servings, and to a first edible most of all.

The rule, plainly

Montana state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public places. The same statute forbids use on public transportation and on school and college grounds, prohibits smoking in hotel and motel rooms unless the room is designated for smoking, and makes it illegal to consume while driving or while riding as a passenger in an enclosed vehicle. Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal. Private property owners, landlords included, can set their own rules.

What it means for your Glendive visit: the town's streets, the riverfront and the state park are all public, and a rental car is not a loophole.

Makoshika is public land

The reason most visitors stop in Glendive for longer than a fuel-up is Makoshika State Park, which starts at the edge of town at 1301 Snyder Avenue. At 11,538 acres it is the largest state park in Montana, a stretch of badlands cut into the Late Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation. More than ten dinosaur species have turned up inside the park, including a complete Triceratops skull, and the visitor center displays Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus rex fossils. The K-T boundary, the layer that marks the end of the dinosaurs about 65.5 million years ago, is visible in the rock.

Winter is the quiet season. The park stays open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the campground runs year-round, but from October 1 through April 30 the visitor center keeps Wednesday-through-Sunday hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closes on most state and federal holidays. Nonresidents pay $8 per vehicle for the day; Montana residents who paid the state parks fee with their vehicle registration enter free.

A state park is a public place under Montana law, so whatever was bought in town stays sealed in the car through the badlands.

Why the town is where it is

Glendive owes its existence to the Northern Pacific Railway, which founded it while building the transcontinental line and made it headquarters of the Yellowstone Division. The Yellowstone River still runs straight through town, and Interstate 94 passes it with four exits. Montana Highway 16 starts in West Glendive and runs north to Sidney, where MT 200 picks up the last stretch to Fairview, which is why shops in all three towns show up in the same searches. Winters here are long, cold and dry, with January highs around 29 degrees and lows near 9, so the drive between them deserves the same respect as the purchase.

The North Dakota question

A good share of the traffic through eastern Montana dispensaries comes from across the state line. North Dakota voters rejected adult-use legalization for a third time in November 2024, with roughly 53% voting no, and the state runs a medical-only program. Montana's adult-use protections end at the Montana border. Cannabis bought in Glendive is legal to possess in Montana, within the limits above, and nowhere else. Federal law also prohibits cannabis on all federal lands and waters, whichever state they sit in.

Before you go

  • Bring a valid government photo ID; every Glendive location on the list is adult-use and 21+ only.
  • Check the Department of Revenue list for the current lineup, since licenses change hands and locations move.
  • Budget for the 23% combined tax on adult-use purchases.
  • Keep purchases sealed and out of reach while driving.
  • Check the events calendar for what is on across the state this winter.
